Last week I recieved some gift certificates in the mail, to be used at my favorite local yarn store. (A Knitted Peace...if you visit Littleton,CO it's a must!) Some people might save them for a rainy day, or a month where they are low on yarn or money. But nope, not me. I barely lasted a week before they burned a hole in my pocket and I was running to the shop. Ever since the new R2 yarn came out, I have wanted to make something with it. Especially when super knitters like Jenn and Jennifer (look at her finished projects/R2 paper hoodie) with their oh-so-cute paper hoodies! This blogging thing is both a blessing and a curse...I find too many fun things I want to make! So...back to the gift certificates. I went into the shop looking for R2 yarn and was so sad when I walked in and didn't see the display. It was my lucky day though, because they had just boxed it up to make room for fall stuff...and it was 20% off. Whoo hoo! It gets better though, because I was debating on how many balls to buy to make a hooded sweater big enough for me (the models in the mag are teeny tiny) she gave me 30% if I bought the whole bag! I didn't even hesitate. I walked out with a bag full of yarn and a credit left at the store. It feels so good when you leave a shop with lots of stuff and haven't spent a single penny!

Here's the loot and my pathetic little swatch.
I have also been working on these little goodies. They are fingerless gloves for my mom made with one skein of Koigu. Bonus! You don't find many projects that use just one skein of this yummy yarn. The pattern is called Eric's Glovelets from Green Mountain Spinnery. They are actually cabled fingerless gloves. I was feeling lazy and decided to not do the cables, especially since Koigu is so pretty all on its own. I am knitting them on two circular needles, which is new to me. It took me a little bit to get used to it, but overall I like working with them and for this project find it easier than DPN's. That's my mom modeling the half finished second glove. She always has cold hands, so this way she can wear gloves even while she's knitting and her hands will be a little warmer!

oh, how fun. i have to get my hands on some of that r2 and at 30% off that's great!. and that koigu is yummy. just looks amazing knit up.
