Whitney and I standing in front of about 225 hats.
So, the other exciting thing that happened over the weekend was the Fanconi Anemia fund raiser that 'Kaps for Kendall' was involved in! WOW! The girls had wanted to collect about 100 hats, that was their goal. So in the end, guess how many they received?! Just over 400 hats!! (they got 90 in the mail on the day of the auction from a woman on the east coast) Can you believe it?! Well, you know what, I can! That's the kind of community that we have here. Knitters are great people, they take time out of their busy schedule to knit a hat for a total stranger, they make Afghans, they make kittybeds, and I know that there are so many other great charity knitting projects out there. I strongly urge you to find the one that fits for you. Maybe it's children, or animals, or cancer survivors, or men and women in the service...find one though. You'll never know how rewarding it is until you try. I was blown away when I saw this table overflowing with hats that had been collected by Whitney and Allison, Kendall's sisters. Kendall would have loved seeing this, she talked to me about a time when she was away from home, working with people at the Denver Rescue Mission, she loved that place. Her heart was for people who were going through hard times...yeah, she would have loved this.
Posted by Stacey at November 17, 2004 08:04 PMWow, that is so great! I think this winter i'll be doing some sort of charity knitting...the LYS has a drop-off that I have to look into....And your art is very cool, how exciting to have it on display like that! Congratulations!
Posted by: peth at November 18, 2004 12:29 PMMy small group just finished knitting over 100 hats for our local Children's Hospital. The neat part is that the son of one of our members has serious medical problems and has to go to the hospital fairly often. He dreads these visits. But this month he is so anxious to go because he is the one that gets to deliver the hats. Pretty neat, huh?
