Fry-up:
I have had so much fun with the fry-up knitters this week! Not to mention all the comments that I get from people wondering, "umm, why are you knitting fried eggs?" I actually had one girl at my small group study last night ask me if I would actually carry it...of course I would!! Hello! It's a purse with breakfast on it, it doesn't get much better than this!
Ali has practically finished her fry-up! It's lookin' good...and she even came up with a pattern for 'tomato ketchup' since it was omitted from the 'full English' she's making. I love it!
Ann has been knitting away, finishing an egg and the two sides of the plate/purse when...she ummm...felt like the egg was looking a little, well...booby-like. So, she is in the re-knitting phase today, go check out her luscious fiesta plate. (it looks alot like the persimmon color that my parents have!) And check out the new ring that she belongs too...oh man, I want to join...does driving a New Beetle count. It's kinda mini-esque. Ever since I saw The Italian Job I have wanted one of those cars!!
Mozemen has found her muse, the perfect plate to serve up her fry-up.
Kim figured out her plate troubles...and she's ready to get cookin'. (everyone needs to let me know when I've taken the food-related commentary and silly sayings too far;-)
One is the lonliest number...

So my egg looks a little funny to me, but I think you should make the call. Ann, does mine look too much like a booby too?! Tell me how you really feel! I'm thinking about re-knitting this in the round anyway, because my seaming looks like crap. Whenever possible, I knit with circulars or dpn's just to avoid the dreaded seaming! Sometimes, it can't be avoided though.
I decided to use wooden needles, so I pulled out my 14", #8 Brittany Birch needles and had an enjoyable time knitting with acrylic yarn...what? enjoying acrylic?! Yep, I admit it...I had fun knitting up that fried egg, and it went suprisingly fast. I had started with metal needles (which I usually prefer) but the yarn "stuck" to the needle too much and was much to squeeky for my taste. My plan right now is to cast on for the plate at the Littleton Meetup tonight.

In Sockapalooza news...the survey I posted was a HUGE success! Way beyond any kind of response that I thought I'd get...136 people took my survey, wow! Here are the final numbers:
36%- (49 people) Koigu
25.7%- (35) Bonkers
22.1%- (30) Interlacements
8.8%- (12) Regia
7.4%- (10) Opal
So...Koigu it is! Man, this yarn seems to win out every time. I love the stuff, but why is it so special? I have neer heard anyone say that they don't like it. It seems like it's becoming the ultimate in yarn...oh it's koigu..ooohh, ahhhh. This is the kind of response Koigu gets. So, if I make these socks, does that mean that I get to "replace" the yarn in my stash? I can't let my Koigu stash get too low! Here's a shot of the winning yarn! Which will hopefully be turned into a sock very soon!

That's all I've got in Knitalong news...thanks again for helping me figure out what yarn to use!!!
Posted by Stacey at February 8, 2005 08:19 AMI've noticed the boobness while knitting the plates. Do not be ashamed! Embrace the boobage!
I think I'm going to knit the yolks separately so I can stuff them and make them look more yolkish. 3-D, baby.
Posted by: Kim at February 8, 2005 10:56 AMYours doesn't look too mammary Stacey -- although I think Kim has a great idea in stuffing the yolks separately. I was also wondering about knitting the bag in black and trying to make it look like a fry pan, but it would need the pan's handle and I can't quite figure out how to make that work.
Posted by: ann at February 8, 2005 11:36 AM-Kim, great idea to stuff the yolk. Why didn't I think of that as I was knitting last night? This is why knitalongs are so great, you get such great suggestions that you might not have thought about before!
-Ann, I think that the black fry pan idea sounds great! I've been wondering what kind of handles I want on my bag...no I-cord, something a little more substantial is in order. We'll have to discuss it when the time comes.
-Good news knitters, Libby, who has completed a Fry-Up before, is going to be at the knitting group that I'm going to tonight, so I'm going to pick her brain a bit. Hopefully she'll have some more good pointers and give me some hands on suggestions. Let me know any other questions you have and I'll be sure to ask her, and together we can probably figure it out.
That yarn rocks!!!!!!
Posted by: Heather at February 8, 2005 03:04 PMMaybe a little booby-like, but it looks just like an egg to me. You definitely should replace the koigu, can't get too low. We wouldn't want t koigu emergency!!
Posted by: Vicki at February 8, 2005 04:25 PMI would say egg over booby. But I like the idea of stuffing the yolk.

Posted by: Danielle at February 8, 2005 11:55 PMThe booby egg rocks. Leave it the way it is - in the round you risk adding a nipple!
Posted by: Julia at February 9, 2005 06:40 AMHmm.. there is some vague boob-ish-ness about it, but it just seems to be the kind of egg that should be mashed down with the spatula while cooking. No worries. :)
Posted by: Cathy at February 9, 2005 08:27 AMFirstly - love the booby-egg...it's great! Perhaps if you're nervous - you could add some black seed beads for pepper flakes?
Secondly --- oooooh -- glad the crowds agree -- the Koigu is so lovely - looking forward to seeing it as socks!
Cheers!
Your egg is lovely! I've finally gotten around to frying-up, and I knit a (bright yellow) beret last night. Can't wait to get started on the food bits!
