Sew-Up!

Group2.jpg
Here's the partial group picture: Anne, me and Alice, Tamara, Brynne and John,Libby's mom , and Libby.

We had "sew" much fun on Saturday! What a great show of support from the Denver knitters! I had no idea who was going to show up, I had a few people RSVP. So I was so glad when Nancy, who I'd never met before, but reads my blog, came over right on the dot, 10am sharp. She only went to one wrong house saying that she was, "here for the afghan thing" before she showed up on my doorstop saying that she recognized my face from my blog!! She had to wait while my mom and I scurried around getting the last minute details together...and putting the finishing touches on some little party favors. (that of course I decided to put together at 6:30 the night before)

A friend of mine, Jan, came by about 10:30, and boy am I glad she did! She was a sewing fiend...I had sewn up maybe a square and a half and she was done with the a whole row. Brynne showed up with her precious son John next. He was quite the helper...I have the utmost respect for moms who can knit and take care of babies at the same time. She was amazing, and what a sweet baby. People just kept stopping by, dropping in and out.

Brynne managing to concentrate, despite the fact that John was rolling around at her feet!

Here's Anne jumping right into it with her eye for detail. Tam came with her and had many good ideas about the crochet border.

The afghan was seamed together pretty quickly, by about 1:30 we had it all seamed up and were ready for lunch. Sewing up is hard work, builds up an appetite! We made short order of the 3 pizzas I had ordered. Then it was back to sewing and chatting!

LibbyAndMom.jpg
I wish that I could say that Libby's mom came all the way fromt Utah just for the sew-up...but I guess she came to see her grandkids. Thanks for bringing her Libby! Do these mother/daughter look like each other, or what?! So cute.

MomSewing.jpg
My mom, who always supports whatever I do, and is my best friend...joined in the sewing. She was such a help to me, thanks mom! Anne and Tam worked on the border while we all watched a movie...and the last few people were gone by about 6:30! I don't know why I had imagined being up until the wee hours working on this afghan, but everyone did there part and we got it done!! Thank you girls, thank you Ann and Kay for collecting the squares and letting us be a part, thank you to afghans for Afghans for organizing such a wonderful charity! What a great day, and a great feeling, knowing that we got to be a part of something!

read on if you want more pictures...

JanSewing.jpg
Here's Jan sewing away...she left before we took the group picture. Thank you, thank you for all your help Jan!!

JesseHelper.jpg
Of course Jesse had to help out when we laid out all the squares on the floor. My mom kept moving him, and back he'd come. At one point, he was laying under the table and I looked over and just one paw was on the blanket. He will be sad to see it go!

DadStoppingBy.jpg
My dad did a drive-by, he stopped and let me take a picture of him before he whisked my mom away. Yep...that's my Pops, he's the greatest!

The afghan is amazing and the day sounds WONDERFUL. (I love me a cute party favor and yours were ultra-cute!)

Thanks so much for hosting, Stacey. And thank your mom and pops and Alice too!

The picture with the babies, with John's little arm over the afghan, is just melting me. Send it to the Afghans for Afghans picture album!

Love, Kay

And thank you for such a tremendous gesture. I hope we get to meet in person someday soon.

O my gosh, it looks like you had so much fun! I'm sad to have missed it, but I know that whoever gets the afghan won't miss my stitchwork. It's bad enough to scare little children. Thanks for sharing all of the pics.

Wow! Such fun and what a beautiful Afghan you all made! I've been considering running a "send me your squares" and then "Who-ever can come over and help stitch'em together" a-thon...
But it would have to wrap up in MAY... You're definately pushing me towards doing it!
