Literally! A kind gentleman (that's what I'll call him, since I don't know if he'd want me spreading his name all over the knitting blogiverse) here in town found my blog while searching for people in Denver who knit, and he emailed me to see if I'd be interested in the knitting machine he had. Well, I've never really thought about getting a knitting machine because I truly enjoy knitting things with my hands. But when he said the magic words "free" and "knitting", I thought I'd check it out! So off I went last night, after a dinner with a bunch of friends, at 9:30 at night, to get my knitting machine before the kind gentleman left town for the holiday weekend. RayLynn stood in for my mom in the worry department last night though, she was very concerned that I was going by myself, and had me call her when I got to the guys house and when I left, so that she knew I was safe:) Awww, thanks RayLynn! So...here it is:

I haven't really had a chance to do much with it other than take it out of my car and photograph it. But, it's a Passap Duomatic, made in Switzerland. It came with two boxes of gadgets and an instruction booklet. I showed my brother-in-law, Drew, a picture of it this morning at work and he asked how much they wanted for it. I then told him...no, no, it's in my garage, I picked it up last night, it was free! His eyes got all big, and then he asked if he could come over and play with it! Oh yes, this is going to be fun!

How fun! You have to try it out and let us know how you like it. Can't beat the price :)

I love my knitting machine...the key is to have patience and stick-to-it-ness while learning how to work it, after that you will have a blast!!!

Posted by: Wanda at July 2, 2005 08:27 AMStacey, that's so cool! I've always wanted to see how one of those things work, so I suppose I'll have to live vicariously through you at the moment. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Posted by: Faith at July 2, 2005 03:39 PMWow, what a nice man, hope you have a great time with. I am new to knitting and the blog thing. I love your blog very interesting to read.
Posted by: Pammi at July 3, 2005 08:50 PMI had one of those a VERY long time ago and I got it under almost the same circumstances. It was my "starter" machine and led to 2 more.
The key is good cleaning and lubrication before you attempt to use it. I used alcohol on cotton balls and swabs. The needles can be removed for cleaning. When it's spotless, use the oil that came with it or sewing machine oil and keep it well-lubricated. You should have years of good service from the machine.
I guess you've noticed this is not a bulky knitter, so you'll have to stick with fine yarn. It makes beautiful lace!
Posted by: sharon at July 4, 2005 08:22 AMYou'll be able to make sweaters in a day. Is that not exciting?
I have one, but haven't used it for a long time. I never figured out how to use it for anything other than stockinette, increase, and decrases since the manual is in badly-translated-from-Japanese English. You may inspire me to give it another go!
Posted by: Kim at July 4, 2005 08:08 PMI can't wait to see what you can do with that bad baby!
Posted by: Diana at July 5, 2005 04:09 PMNow endless stockinette won't take long at all! You're going to have an awesome time knitting at the speed of light.
