Oh, yes...I did! I said I'd take pictures, didn't I?

Everyone at my dentist's offfice got a big kick out of it! And, I have to say that it did make my trip to the dentist more enjoyable. For those of you that are interested, here's a close-up of the toothy fabric! Look at what is just down the street from my dentist's office. So as a treat to myself, because I'm just a big kid, and I need a little positive reinforcement after I go to the dentist, I stopped in to the Strawberry Tree for a quick peek. I picked up some Tahki Cotton Classic in a pretty pink color, that I plan to make into a Soleil tank, so that I can be just like Cynthia! (scroll down to the June 29th entry to see her purple version!) This tank won't be started until after I finish my Crumpets dress for Alice, which needs to be done by her birthday party in August. So I need to keep on knitting that stockinette! That's all folks...I'm headed home soon, to check my mailbox for some back-tack goodies!!
For those of you that are interested, this was the world's easiest skirt. It was also the first garment that I have ever made! Whoopee! Here's what I did:
•buy 2 yards of super cute fabric (i did end up cutting off 10 inches...so you could obviously buy less), and 3/4 to 1 inch elastic, and some sort of all purpose thread.
•cut said super cute fabric exactly in half
•sew side seams together, iron the seams flat
•sew hemmed casing for elastic waistband (because my grandma sue said that raw edges were BIG nono's), leaving a 2-3 inch opening for the elastic to fit through
•feed elastic into casing and fit to waist, then sew elastic together
•figure out what length you want your skirt. Cut then pin, and press.
•Hem the bottom edge.
Voila! A really easy, fast gathered waist skirt!! Enjoy!
I call that-- dressing for the occassion! You're reminding me that I need to schedule an appointment with my local dentist.
I love the way you think. Both you and Cathi have some of the best blog pictures ever!
Posted by: bluFELICIA at July 19, 2005 06:15 PMGirl... you are the coolest! I bet your dentist got a kick out of it. As a future dentist myself I was wondering where did you find that funky fabric? By the way I love your blog, I have been reading it for a few weeks now.
Posted by: aimee at July 19, 2005 07:00 PMok... just read the previous post, Denver fabrics.

Posted by: Christie at July 19, 2005 07:27 PMSo cute! And super easy. I got my first Takhi Cotton Classic a month ago and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this yarn. It's sooo pretty, and the colors! Your tank will look great :)
Posted by: Vicki at July 19, 2005 08:15 PMStacey, that skirt is so cute! I can't believe you did it, but I shouldn't be surprised. The skirt turned out great. I'm impressed by your first garment. You're so crafty!

What was the reaction at ST? I can just imagine. While your instructions look easy, there's some stuff in there i just don't understand. raw edges? huh?
congrats on the skirt. sounds like quick and easy gratification.
Posted by: Cyn at July 20, 2005 12:05 AMWhat a FUN thing to do!! YOU are a wild woman ... the skirt looks awesome! YiPpEE!
Posted by: Kary at July 20, 2005 04:44 AMHow cute! You know what it reminds me of? The teacher in the Magic School Bus books - she always had bugs or dinosaurs or volcanoes (whatever the kids were learning about) on her dresses.
Posted by: Chrissie at July 20, 2005 05:31 AMGreat skirt! And yes, positive reinforcement is always helpful. I do the same for myself. =)
Posted by: Faith at July 20, 2005 07:23 AMWow, that is really too cute!! I'm so glad you A) sewed that up; B) took photos; and C) bought yarn afterwards! My mom used to always take me to Arby's for a Mocha Shake ... I think starting the tradition of buying yarn after dentist appointments is even better.
Posted by: Jenifer at July 20, 2005 09:12 AMYour tooth skirt is awesome! LOL

Posted by: Lynne at July 21, 2005 10:31 AMI'm not a dentist, - but if I were you would have been my favorite patient, no doubt!!! I just cracked up seeing your skirt!! It's lovely - and even lovelier is that you really wore it to the dentist. Being an ex-dentistophobic (went 9 yrs without seing a dentist - miraculously I made it with my teeth still in place...another story) - reading your post just made my day! Thanks so much for hanging around in Blogland, I'm one of your big fans, said it before :) !!
