Hell freezes over, and a new yarn shop comes to town.

This is why I think that Hell has frozen over:
Cynthia Pink Yarn.jpg
This is Cynthia. She hates the color pink. This is one reason we get along so well...because we never fight over yarn. She has her blues and greens, I have my pinks and oranges. We both walk away from a fiber festival or yarn shop happy because we both don't want the same thing. Why is she holding pink yarn then? Ha! Because she is going to knit a sweater for a friend who looks good in pink! I am going to throughly enjoy every minute that she is knitting that sweater! I mean come on...look at that face! This is going to be fun!

So, where did she buy that lovely shade of Rowan Kid Classic? At String, the new yarn shop here in the southern part of the city, and it's less than 5 miles from my house. One word...dangerous! Especially when you walk in and it looks like this:
Wall of Yarn.jpg
Click to see the other wall! The shop is arranged by color, which I think is visually stunning, but may be slightly annoying later on when you are looking for a specific weight of yarn and have to go all over the store to find what you need. Other than that, it's got just about everything that a knitter could want. I forgot to take a picture of the little bag that my mom got me there...but guess what color it is...pink and orange! It's made by the ladies at KnowKnits, and it's called a Go Knit pouch. I love it, and I've been carrying around a pair of socks in it ever since! (and working on the socks too of course!!) I love when shops start carrying things that I've never seen before. This shop has been open less than a week and it's made it into the top 5 on my list of good local shops. Stop in if you're in the area...it's called String: A Knitting Boutique, and it's located in Highlands Ranch. Of course if you come this way and need someone to go with you to the shop...I think that you could probably twist my arm!!

**I'm having a bit of technical difficulty at home in the internet department, so I'm only going to be able to receive mail while I'm at work. Hopefully this problem will be solved in the next week though! Or I may just have to head down to my sisters or Panara Bread for a little free WiFi access!**

Wow! Sounds like you gals had a blast...wish I could have been apart of every moment!! And as for Strings...holy damn...that place would be very dangerous in my neck-of-the-woods too!

I loved the way it looked in there too. I went last Saturday and again yesterday(looking for needles)-I'll post later with what I actually left with ;) So Cyn got pink--what did you get?

Catching up after my vacation, I saw your goodie bags, wine glass tags, etc., and it's official: You're the Tchotchke/Goody Bag Queen. This is not a small title.

I love making goody bags for any occasion. It always hurts me if the recipients do not 'get' the significance of each little object inside. Once for preschool teachers summer going-away gifts I made goody bags out of Sportsac cosmetic bags, very funny prints, madras etc., with items such as sunscreen lip balm, a beachy anklet, a head-kerchief, and--what I thought was my stroke of genius--a little tub of Crystal Lite lemonade mix. I was waiting and waiting for someone to see the brilliance of that little tub of lemonade-in-waiting. In vain! But it made me happy.....xoxo Kay

I know this is sacrilege - but Cynthia actually looks pretty good with that pink yarn! Well, except for the scowl on her face! ;)

Hey girlie, I've enjoyed reading about your knitcation and the new yarn store! I am so seriously jealous that I don't live near you :) Just wanted to let you know that I am popping your last package in the mail on Monday and will make the reveal then - I can't wait!
xoxo,
your secret pal

Poor Cyn! Stuck knitting something pink, but it's so pretty and will look good on her friend and would look good on Cyn too!

Strings was fun. String could be dangerous.

We have a new LYS that is sorted by color too. Pretty but not practical! LOL

hey, wait! where is this southern side mystical lys? i'm coming back to denver in 10 days, and will spend tons of time in the southier areas once DU starts up again!

oh.... but then there's the mandatory grad school yarn diet... who can buy yarn when they can't even pay their rent?

[sigh]
