I have been having fun playing with some of the yarn in my stash these last couple days. Some of it is for a specific project, some of it is just yarn that I bought on a whim. Here's a little bitty swatch of Debbie Bliss Cathay yarn.

A month or so ago I did a little trade with Jenifer because I fell in love with this A-Line sweater that she had made. I gave her some Interlacements, and she gave me some Cathay. I love yarn swapping! Since my Rogue trouble with guage, I've been a little freaked out and I've started swatching more. Before "the incident", I was loath to make swatches, but we'll see how long this lasts.
Spork:
I decided that I would use Noro for the middle stripe on my bag. I've had 2 skeins of Big Kureyon that I've been itching to knit something out of. I knit my two color options up:
Option one:

This one is knit out of Brown Sheep Autumn Harvest, Noro Big Kureyon in color No.2, and Brown Sheep Aubergine.
Option two:

This one is knit out of Brown Sheep RPM Pink, Noro Big Kureyon in color No.2, and Brown Sheep Aubergine.
Through much discussion and debate, I decided to go with Option number 1, the Autumn Harvest color. Even though I personally own a ton of the RPM pink and it's one of my favorite Brown Sheep colors. I do have a lot of pink bags as it has been pointed out to me (on numerous occasions)...so I'm branching out a little bit. Kind of branching out...because look at the yarn that is going to be the middle section of my bag! I don't think that it's going to stripe a ton. I guess the only way to know for sure is to just start knitting it!

So, I'm going to cast on tonight at knit group...and of course get a few final opinions from the masses. So, if you have an opinion speak now, or forever hold your peace! Have a great weekend everyone!!
Posted by Stacey at October 14, 2005 08:20 AMI love both your choices but I wanted to warn you, Kureyon felts really differently than brown sheep. I made a french market bag with kureyon and brown sheep and the bag stayed floppy while the handles and bottom were nice and tight...and if i felted more to get the Kureyon tighter, the brown sheep would have disappeared!! :)
Just a heads up!
Posted by: Debi at October 14, 2005 05:52 PMI also have felted with Brown Sheep and Big Kureyon. I hope it is not to late but they do felt very different. I think that the Big Kureyon needs to be doubled I can see through mine and it didn't felt well. The Brown sheep is faster at felting. I refelted my bag to see if it would get any tighter and it did not! I'm not very happy with my choiceof yarn mix.
Posted by: Sheila at October 14, 2005 10:39 PMUh oh. Um. I know you can't read comments tonight b/c of technical difficulties... I'll call you during lunch break maybe to console you on this horrible news.
Posted by: cyn at October 14, 2005 11:59 PMI'm a little concerned about how bright the orange is - I know it's difficult to tell from online photos, but I think maybe a slightly darker orange would work better? It just seems to be overpowering the other two colors.
Posted by: michaele at October 15, 2005 09:29 AMOops! I guess I'm going to need to felt some swatches tomorrow. I'll try felting the one that I've already made and I'll knit another one doubling up on the Noro. I guess we'll soon see what yarn I end up using. I only have 2 skeins of the Noro which would have been enough, but probably won't be if I need to double it. At least I hadn't knit it up yet.
Posted by: Stacey at October 15, 2005 08:45 PMLove your blog - the noro is beautiful and the A-line sweater is a great design.
Posted by: Esther at October 16, 2005 11:25 AMhey...just wanted to tell you that i love your blog!! i'm going to try to knit up that scarf pattern that you have, it looks great, i've been looking for a new and interesting pattern to procrastinate with!
Posted by: Cristina at October 17, 2005 01:19 PMLove the autumn harvest but I am a sucker for those colors this time of year.
Posted by: Bonnie at October 17, 2005 05:29 PMOoh, love that color combo with the Kureyon in the middle. I thought maybe Noro would look weird in Spork, but it's a perfect middle yarn. Can't wait to see the Cathay knit up, too!! Isn't it so darn pretty??
Posted by: Jenifer at October 18, 2005 09:24 AMWell, I would suggest the second one, but you've probably already cast on in whatever you decided over the weekend. =) I love pink! Orange is great too though. It's a hard call because they both look great.
Posted by: Faith at October 18, 2005 12:33 PMFirst let me say 'thank you, thank you.' Well, sorta'. See, you encouraged me to learn to knit just so I could have a so-called-scarf. That's the 'thank you' part. The sorta' comes in when I have to stand and say "Hi, my name is Lori, and I'm a wool-aholic." And, I must admit, a wool snob, which is a bit of an achievement considering the closest lys is in Memphis, 1.5 hrs. away. Now I covet that gorgeous a-line sweater. Details, please!
Posted by: lori at October 18, 2005 05:37 PMThese beautiful close-ups made my jaw drop. I'm a SUCKA for color. beautiful.
Posted by: Nik at October 18, 2005 06:43 PMSO glad you joined the Socktoberfest fun, Stacey! :)
Posted by: Lolly at October 19, 2005 06:33 AMOooh - I love those yarns - especially the Debbie Bliss Cathay - gorgeous color!
Posted by: Jennifer at October 19, 2005 09:55 AMhey neighbor! I live in Golden...kinda. I found your website by way of Amy King's site. Love your work. A bunch of us get together a couple Saturday mornings a month in south Longmont. Let me know if you would like to come - we'd love to have you. Oh, migawd, I just realized you may already know all about it and I've been so completely irratic and senile about things, that I'm sort of the stranger in the group lately. Either way, let me know. I *love* your website/design - did you do all that yourself??!! wow. very nice.
Posted by: marta at October 19, 2005 07:59 PMHi!
Love your blog, and that A-line sweater is very nice. Where could I find the pattern?
