Yarn? We don't need no stinkin' yarn!

NewFabric.jpg
I have visited 3 yarn stores in the last 3 days...and I haven't bought ANY yarn!! Ladies of the stashalong, you'd be so proud of me! There were even sales at two of them! I'm kind of liking the feeling I have walking out with nothing...it makes me think that there were many times in the last few years where I would buy yarn just for the sake of buying yarn. But...to be completely honest I have been buying things for another stash that I have...my fabric stash! I have been looking for a certain quilt pattern called 'Yellow Brick Road' for a few years now. The shop I went to yesterday had it as well as the Kaffe Fasset fabric. I haven't seen the Kaffe Fasset fabrics at my local quilt store, so of course I had to pick some up!!!

These are "fat quarters". I only needed 12 of them to make a lap quilt, so that's what I purchased. (I may need to go back and get some more though to make a bag for myself!! Here are a few close-up pictures of the fabric. It's going to be all pink, orange, and green fabulous!! I can't wait to get home and start putting it together!

Kim, I hope buying needles is okay with the stashalong...because I desperately needed some Addi's to get gauge on my Fair Isle Jazz (of course I had the wrong size here with me!) and I found some metal teeny tiny DPN's! Now I can be just like you! Ha! If only I could finish a pair of socks as fast as you do I'd be set!! I have more to talk about...but I'm going to save that for a later post. As a teaser...I have decided to copy a friend of mine in a great project that she's doing! It's going to be tons of fun!!! Hope everyone's having a great weekend, I know that I am and I'm getting a lot of knitting done! Off to start a movie, knit some more, or maybe just take a nap.

I love your fabric choices! 3 Yarn stores and no yarn...I am sure that your fellow stashalongers are very proud. I am not yet able to join that group but I have been proud of myself for resisting the Claudia's Handpaint that has been on Kpixie. I bought some last go round and it IS beautiful but I don't need more. Want...well that is another story. I look forward to seeing your quilt come together.

I'm excited to see your quilt take shape! I just had that pattern recommended to me as a good beginner quilt - love your color choices!

Stacey, Nice job on not buying yarn. I however, am about to purchase the other four skins of Koigu to start my charlotte. I think I am going with a blue to purple theme. I have one skin of the purple ready to go. You are so creative. I can't wait to see your quilt when it is finished. Love the fabrics, very bright and retro looking. Where did you find the knitting bag pattern? I would love to get it to send to my sister to make for me. (I don't sew) Have fun and can't wait for your next post! Becky

I love those fabrics! They're exactly what I would have picked for a quilt. Please post pictures while you work on it. I'm needing some reassurance that I can make a quilt. :)

Okay, so just because you're not buying yarn doesn't mean you can start a new stash-buying habit! But the fabric is cute!

According to Kim (as of today, 1/7), knitting needles do not count for the stash-along. Books don't count either. (whew!)

what's this project you're making all sneaky down there in AZ? At least tell us what friend you're copying!

Don't be fooled. I hear it's just as addicitive.

Needles, books, bags, patterns are fine :) I love that fabric--can't wait to see the lap quilt you make with it!! Does your Mom have anything to report this week?

A few questions answered:

Becky: I got the fabric and the patterns at a shop here in Arizona called Cotton Fields. Here's the shop website: http://www.cottonfieldsquiltknit.com/ The pattern is from a company called Favorite Things, it's called Thelma's Knitting Bag. (my great grandma's name is Thelma...how cool is that!?!) Their website is www.favoritethings.net

Cynthia: There are no secret projects here!?! You'll just have to wait like everybody else! I will say one thing though...I'm not making it down here, I'm just planning it. Hmmm.

Kim: My mom doesn't have anything to report...although she didn't understand and/or remember that I had signed her up so she bought 2 skeins of Manos for a My So Called scarf. In her defense, it is kind of Bronco colored. She is very excited about knitting from her stash though. Ummm, what happens now?

I definitely found last year during my YNBA that I loaded up on books and needles during those 3 months! And it's probably time for some fabric stash enhancement, right?? Who had the sales??

Stacey, Thanks. They didn't have it on their website. OH well, not ment to be. I will just have to drool over your bag after you make it and post a picture of it. Have a safe trip back.

Just popping through on weekly Stashalong check.

the yellow brick road quilt is the only quilt pattern i love to sew...well, make that, thee ONLY quilt pattern i sew. When making the lap size 5 finished blocks, by 7 you will have precisely 5 "spare" blocks. I like to make mine 5x8. The little bit of extra length ensures that one's toes will not be hanging out and be cold. i'm so happy to see another knitter quilting! I love this pattern because of the little amount of matching seams and fussy-ness.

Are you going to machine quilt the layers together or hand quilt?

WOW! Three shops and no yarn. I'm impressed. I just don't go into the shops. It's easier. :D

Love the fabric you picked up. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

I love your Kaffe fabric..I am a big fan. ALso yellow brick road is a great "instant gratification" quilt pattern...have fun making it. I blog about quilting and knitting. Check out www.QuiltersBuzz.com if you have a second!

ps
Another great "fat quarter" quilt is the "Turning Twenty" booklet (You use 20 FQ's to make it). Makes a great "boy/man" quilt--big and chunky blocks--no foo-foo, fancy dainty blocks in this quilt. But turns out great.
