I heart my new knitting space!

Over the weekend I bought a pink hutch/shelf when I was out shopping with Cynthia. This got me thinking about what I would do with it and where I would put it. Then I had an email conversation with Norma about stash and how I need to "see" my yarn so that I'm reminded of just how much I have. So...last night I rearranged my stash and took all my yarn up to the loft in my house. I love it! I just want to curl up with Jesse and knit all day long. There is no T.V., there is no phone, there is no computer to distract me. There is just comfy seating and yarn...lots of yarn!!! Do you want to see it?! Well....ok!

YarnCubbies.jpg
These are my new cubby-hole shelves that I got off of Craig's List. (or I should say that Cynthia found on Craig's List and then very gratiously let me purchase one of the two) I love, love, love them! It's like a yarn store in my house! From the top left sqaure across, this is what is in these shelves:
•assorted pink wool: for example Malabrigo, Colinette Pt. 5, Cascade 220, Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed, etc.
•Elizabeth Lavold Silky Wool for 2 projects, Cascade Pearls in orange, 10 skeins of Artful Yarns (from the after Christmas crazy sales/shopping spree!)
•Sock Yarn
•Purple Rowan Cork (13 skeins) and Orange Tahki Baby (8 skeins)
•assorted Rowan yarn, most of which is 9 skeins of Rowan Plaid
•Lorna's Laces: Shepherd Sock, Bull Frogs and Butterflies, Helen's Lace, Blue Sky Alpaca, and other Lace weight yarn.
•Ahhh, my favorite cubby. This is my Koigu cubby, it's only half full...this needs to be remedied!
•Noro: lots of Kureyon, some silk garden, silk garden lite, and random skeins that I've picked up because I thought they were pretty.
•Last, but certainly not least is my cubby full of Tahki Cotton Classic. I love that stuff. I'm waiting to figure out the perfect knit, that will look decent on me, to knit with it. I have a box of 10 skeins in Bubble gum pink.

The whole shelf is sitting on top of another shelf that I already had...that is now housing more yarn! My Brown Sheep wool and my CottonEase stash. And I just noticed in the picture that there is more yarn sitting on top of the whole thing...that's a bag of Rowan R2 Paper and 2 bags of Debbie Bliss Cathay. Looking at all of that yarn makes me happy.

This is the pink hutch that I got. It fits right on top of two old green lockers that I've had for ages. My books and magazines fit just right...I may be in trouble if I purchase any new books in the future though. That's it. I'll show you more pictures when the place is really all straightened up. But for now I'll leave you with this...guess who loves the newly improved loft? It's Jesse!! Me thinks he likes it.

Je rêve d'avoir un espace comme celui là !

It DOES look like a mini yarn store -- wonderful! what a lovely area for yourself.

Wish I could do something like that....all my yarn is in my cedar chest or my window seat/chest....safe from my exploring, curious cats.

Wow! It looks amazing!

I love it. It is giving me some ideas for the upcoming move and how to display my yarn and where. It looks great Stacy!

Oh, it is like having your own little yarn store - how fun!

Hi Jesse! Peek-a-boo.

Very nice---what a perfect place to curl up and knit :)

Stacey, I love the yarn space! How wonderful. It looks so inviting. The pink hutch is so cute too. What a find. I'll have to show you a picture of my swift. It was my mom's - she bought it while living in Japan 37 years ago and it's pink! It would look fabulous in your space. lol

Stacey,

I am green (Pink) with envy. I am fixing up the back room for my "Knitting Space", but it is no where near done. Oh, I wish I had that much yarn. I would just go visit it and touch it and talk to it. So much yarn, so little time. One day my stash will look like that. Too cute!!

What a wonderful knitting space ... room to knit, room to chill, and all that yarn accessible and easy to see so that one can dream.

Well done!

I love your yarn space! It does look so comfy and cozy - and you'll love it just as much in the summer as in the winter, I'm sure. Very happy colors.

Posted by: cyn at February 8, 2006 08:29 PM

All I can say is WOW! It looks like an awesome knitting room-your a lucky "bum".

P.S. I enjoy your blog and your knitting is great!

Posted by: Jeanie at February 8, 2006 08:48 PM

Awesome organization! And a space to knit in, that is great! Phew, don't feel so bad now about a mini yarn store LOL!

Posted by: Zonda at February 8, 2006 09:19 PM

Very nice, I love how you've organized everything. It looks professional!

Posted by: Carrie at February 8, 2006 09:25 PM

Yes, Finally someone who seems to have just a tiny bit larger stash than I do!!! And look at all the pink!

Posted by: Suzanne at February 8, 2006 09:27 PM

Wow! The organize your stash thing is spreading. Nice Job!

Posted by: Susan at February 8, 2006 09:57 PM

Wow, that looks FABULOUS! Nice job!

My first thought when I saw the cubby picture was, "Couldn't do it. Got cats." Then I thought, "But wait... I think Stacey HAS a cat..." I read a bit further, and sure enough, there is photographic evidence of a cat on the premises.

How is such a thing possible? Does Jessie not climb into the cubbies and kick out all the yarn onto the floor and chew it and drool all over it?

Clearly I need to send my cats to whatever finishing school Jessie attended.

I agree 100% with what Salidou said... I dream of a place like that :)
I have a similar cupboard, but it is full with stuff... one cubby hole holds my vinyl records, but the rest is just stuff that I haven't touched in several years. Need to find the energy to empty it :)

Enjoy your personal "yarn shop" LOL.
Have a good one...

WOW what can one say. I have my yarn on a bookshelf in the study but it isn't the same as having your own yarn shop;)I have to ask is that a mag-lite next to your doorway? Just wondering, a have one in my hallway for those things that go bump in the night.

Posted by: Kylie at February 9, 2006 01:49 AM

I love the reorganization of the yarn. It looks great and up in the loft is a great idea.

Posted by: Wanda at February 9, 2006 06:22 AM

WOW! I am jealous! Lovely colors and all my favorites! I think you need a spotlight for it! That would really show it off nicely and the colors would look fabulous!

Posted by: Sandy at February 9, 2006 07:55 AM

Wow! It really is like a yarn store!! My husband is refinishing the small attic room for me- it will be my study/yarn store. :D I seriously can't wait. He's actually redoing our bathroom now, and so maybe I'll just refinish it myself. :D It's just sanding down the grout or whatever it is in the drywall, pulling up the 1950s linoleum and redoing the wood floors, then painting. I think I can do it, and certainly want to after seeing your photos!!!!

Posted by: Lelah at February 9, 2006 08:24 AM

Wow, your house IS like a yarn shop! I'm envious! My knitting space is spread throughout the house in varous baskets. It's a mess.

Posted by: Kim at February 9, 2006 09:06 AM

Wow! I love the pink hutch and I so want to come knit in your knitting space!

Posted by: Lauren at February 9, 2006 09:51 AM

Stacey, can I please come to Colorado and see it in person? :) It looks like a wonderful place to escape "real life" and just knit to your hearts content! Enjoy your new knitting nook!

Posted by: Whit at February 9, 2006 11:21 AM

I love it, love it, love it! I am so jealous. Do you have cats and how are they not leaping into the cubbies? My cats lost interest in yarn, but every so often, they play soccer.

OMG, I heart your new knitting space, too..........WOW!

Posted by: christine at February 9, 2006 12:16 PM

I heart your new knitting space too! What a great idea, to have the stash in all its glory, instead of like mine hidden in the closet alone! And I LOVE that pink hutch, sooo cute.

Yay to you! Love the new stash! :)

I love all the yarn choices you have (esp the pink hues)...you did a fantastic job on the yarn cubicle. You've inspired me...I think I want one for myself now. Thank you for sharing.
