...and I didn't finish on time. I'm only a little bit bummed. I know that I worked on it as much as I could, and that I knit it well, and that it was a challenge to me. That's what counts in the end. I had a few people over for a closing ceremonies gathering, and Sharon thought that we all deserved a Gold Medal so she bought us some!! Thanks Sharon!!

This is Joanne, me, and Cynthia all holding our Olympic hopefuls. None of us reached our goal of finishing...but we tried our best! My project looks shrimpy in that picture but that sleeve/back section that I'm holding was touching the floor. (I swear!) I am almost finished with the sleeves and back of the shrug. I have to pick up stitches all the way around and knit the collar and back now. If I were to analyze why I didn't finish on time, I'd have to say that I got off to a slow start the first few days, and then towards the middle I just got bored. I'm a multi-project kind of girl. I love to have a couple (or more) projects going so that I can have a choice and some options when I get that kinda bored feeling. I would do the Knitting Olympics again in a heartbeat...it was fun and challenging. How cool to think that I was working on my Olympic project at the same time as a little over 4000 other people were doing the exact same thing!! So cool! Thanks for all the encouragement everyone, it really did spur me on towards the finish line...I just haven't crossed it yet?! I'm planning on finishing this up so that I can wear it in Boston when I visit in a couple of weeks. I know I can finish it!
Of course, now that the craziness of the Olympics is over...I have new projects on the horizon. Like this little sweetie of a sweater...for my new nephew that's on the way!

Everyone say, "Awwww, it's so cuuuuute!" Yes, indeed, it is! This pattern is from a new book that I picked up called One Skein because, you guessed it, everything in it is made with just one skein! (granted there is a "stash-buster" section that has patterns for multiple skein projects, but it's neat.) Leigh Radford, who wrote another of my favorite books, AlterKnits, wrote this one! If you haven't, check these books out. They both have some really cute ideas!
And then..I also have a super secret project that I'm working on for my friend Genia! Her birthday is in a little over a week...so I need to get cracking! I may post some pictues...but Genia is sneaky and she reads this blog on a daily basis so I haven't really decided. That's all for now, I'm looking forward to knitting these two projects in the coming weeks, as well as finishing my Charlotte...it's soooo close to being done, I can't wait to wear it!
Posted by Stacey at February 27, 2006 08:46 AMat least you gave it a good go! it's all about trying your best - that's all that matters!
Posted by: melissa at February 27, 2006 05:46 PMHave you used Blue Sky's cotton yarn before? I've been thinking about using it for a baby project. I'd love to hear what you think about it.
Posted by: Kaitie Tee at February 27, 2006 05:52 PManother baby for you to spoil, yeah! and that is SO cute. seriously. i was over at strange little mama's blog and she has the book too. HMPH! amazon says it is coming out april 1st. must..find..in..seattle..now!!
Posted by: amy at February 27, 2006 08:08 PMOh, what a cute sweater! Now I'm interested in the book!
Posted by: Chris at February 27, 2006 08:11 PMStacey,
You gave it your best, I know you did. Congratulations on the effort. At least you tried. I cannot wait to see it finished. I also can't wait to see charlotte finished as well as this adorable sweater. I have that book on my amazon wish list. It says it is not out yet. I guess I will have to drag myself to the book store to look for it. I may have to pay full price just to have it. I am glad you are posting again. It seems everyone took a break from blogging to concentrate on the Olympics. The whole Colorado team gave it their best and it shows!
I'm sorry you didn't finish your project in time for the end of the Olympics, but you made a heck of a lot more progress than I did (not that I was participating). I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product!
The baby sweater looks like a great project. I thought I was immune to babylust, but seeing that squishy little newborn in the book makes me start to itch for a new baby. Uh oh. Are there more baby projects in there, or just the one?
Posted by: Jess at February 27, 2006 10:12 PMYou did your best and you're still a winner in my book! And you've made such great progress that I know you will finish it. Can't wait to see all the finished things, esp. Charlotte.
Posted by: Wanda at February 28, 2006 08:41 AMYou did your best and sometimes just participating is enough!
Plus that still is some lovely Noro........
Man! How do you get so many great knitting supplies and books? I am SO envious. I love it. Did you get an advanced copy of this book?
Posted by: Kelli at February 28, 2006 12:50 PMOne of each, how sweet for your family!
Posted by: Cathi at February 28, 2006 03:09 PMHow cool is that book? I'm going to have to look that up.
Even though you didn't finish the shrug, the point was to challenge yourself. For that you deserve a gold medal.
Posted by: jae at February 28, 2006 04:26 PMThanks for the ONE SKEIN information. I am going to get it.. i know lots of babies who need a bolero or two!
Posted by: kathy b at February 28, 2006 05:59 PMCongrats on getting as far as you did! I am looking forward to seeing the finished project, whenever that may be! I am slowly getting through the shrug, but you're right, it's a bit tedious, isn't it? that's why i have 5 other projects going on! I love both AlterKnits and One Skein. I find AlterKnits totally inspiring!
Posted by: Allegra at February 28, 2006 06:24 PMHey -- did you see those "I can't believe I almost knit it?" Knitting Olympic t-shirts at knitty? I think you gave it a thumbs-up effort, and the *only* reason I was able to do my sweater was because it was short yardage, and practically no finishing! I love practically no finishing. I'm such a multi-project person, too. I have yet to see that book in person ... can't wait to see it -- that is one cute baby bolero.
Posted by: Jenifer at March 1, 2006 07:22 AMYou still did a great job on your project and the spirit was definitely there. That baby bolero is sooo cute! And I adore that color.
Posted by: Vicki at March 1, 2006 09:02 AME for EFFORT! So glad you got so far. Hooray anyways--I love that picture of you guys.
Posted by: Ann at March 2, 2006 09:15 AMHi! It is looking good, don't feel bad I didn't finish either..ran out of yarn in the color I didn't think I would. I too am glad it is over...too many other things to knit. That little bolero is going to be sooo cute...
Posted by: Zonda at March 2, 2006 12:59 PMThat is a beautiful little bolero! I wonder if I can find that book here in Sweden, sounds like a good one.
Get better soon!
Posted by: Ulrika at March 4, 2006 05:09 AMWhat a cute little bolero! Thank you so much for sharing that, I was looking for something just like that to make for my coming soon niece.
Posted by: Liberty at March 4, 2006 11:52 PMWhere did you find the One Skein book? Amazon says it's not released yet...what a cute baby bolero!
