An almost F.O. and Show-n-Tell

SkullHat.jpg
Here's the We Call Them Pirates hat that I made for my friend Genia for her birthday. I love, love, love it! Genia has already seen it, so it's okay that I'm revealing it here. I just need to undo the provisional cast on, pick up stitches and knit a couple inches for a liner, and block it! This was such a fun pattern to knit...next time I'm definitely going to go up a needle size...this baby is a little tight...but I'm going to block the crap out of it and make it work!! Here's a view from the top, isn't it so neat the way all the decreases line up in neat little rows?! Just because I think that it's hilarious...can you spot my mistake? I think it adds a bit of character, right?

Pattern: We Call Them Pirates by Hello Yarn
Yarn: Dalegarn Falk in bright green and black. One skein each.
Needles: US 3 16" Addis, 3 DPN's
Knit: 3/1-3/19

I was also asked to take a picture of all my Koigu. Ask...and most of the time...you shall receive! Here it is in all it's glory.
All My Koigu.jpg
I love to see it all laid out in color families...it's just so pleasing to my eyes. I was inspired to do this after seeing all of Caryn's Koigu last year and I just never got around to it. She has 88 skeins of Koigu! Holy crap! I think I may have a little less than half that. Someday, maybe someday I'll be up to Caryn's level of Koigu-deliciousness. I took some close up pictures if you're intersted: pinks/reds/oranges, greens/some light pinkish/purples, purples/multi colored skeins, and lastly the solids! I don't have immediate plans for all of this yarn...I know, I know, I have a problem...but I do have a few ideas. We'll just have to wait and see what develops!

Your "mistake" is pretty cool. It makes the hat unique and also adds a bit of spirituality and humility... you know, reminding ourselves of our own imperfections. I love the colors! Although the pink is provisional, it does something wild when combined with the green and black! Nice job.

The hat came out great - you added a "personal touch" to it!

I love love love that orange (way left) and bright green Koigu!!!!!! What color numbers are those??? I think I may have to find some!

If you want to know colors, just leave a comment or email me and I'll look when I get home. Obviously...I don't carry around my Koigu, although if I could I would...I love looking at it!! Ha!

-Sheep in the City Stacey...a different one than the above Stacey! It's alway's weird when someone with the same name as you leaves a comment! It made me do a double take, like, "wait a sec, did I leave a comment?!"

All that Koigu is so delicious. I'd keep it out all the time for display.

I can't see the mistake... I'm impaired that way.

Or maybe it's because my mouth was hanging open while I gawked at the Koigu. Wow.

Stacey,

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Thank you for posting pictures of your koigu!!!!! I Need (ok want)the color numbers of the five purple ones in the lower right hand corner. And the pink stripe one between the reds and that mauve one. You are so awesome!! I love your collection. I have five skeins. I have some catching up to do to equal your greatness. You rock!! I love the hat. And I love the mistake. At least I know you aren't totally perfect with your knitting. Makes us novices feel better. Thank you again for posting the pics! The hat rocks. Someone here at work just saw it and couldn't believe you could do that with yarn. See, it's not all granny squares! Becky

Have you ever thought about starting a Koigu 12-step program? Ay yi yi!

Actually, I'm jealous. I love Koigu, and no one around here carries it. :o(

Posted by: cyn at March 21, 2006 08:14 PM

It's almost a shame to knit with the Koigu. It looks so pretty as it is! Love the Pirate hat... so cute. It's on my must-make list.

I love the little mistake on your hat. It's so cute.

Thank you for the koigu show and tell. Wow! It makes me want to run and buy some. I have not bought any koigu. Crazy, I know!

Posted by: Oiyi at March 21, 2006 10:17 PM

Awesome hat! That koigu looks amazing - it takes up you're whole steamer trunk/coffee table. See you tomorrow! Can't wait to get home.

Posted by: Whitney at March 22, 2006 12:16 AM

That picture of the Koigu is awesome!! I should switch over to koigu. I realized today that I have the same problem you do but mine's with Cherry Tree hill. Sigh. :D

Posted by: Michelle at March 22, 2006 03:18 PM

That's a lot of Koigu that I see in any private ownership! :)
