How much is too much?

As I was packing last night and this morning for my trip to Arizona, I was reminded that I am a very unrealistic packer. Both with clothing and with yarn. Does it look like I'm taking too much yarn with me? I can't decide what to cut out though. It's a problem, seriously.

Here's what I'm taking:

1. Felted Clogs: Because they are almost finished
2. Jamaica yarn: I can't wait even one more day to cast on! I'm bringing it on the plane with me! I'll be doing a little tubular cast on while in flight. (is it just me or does that sound a little bit wrong?)
3. Mystery Project 1 and 2 because as someone pointed out, it's the perfect time to work on them.
4. Rogue: Maybe I'll figure out my sizing/gauge problems (I was way too tight the first time!) Only 1 skein is going with me though.
5. Koigu Clapotis: For obvious reasons...must...have...the Koigu...at...all...times!
6. Bloggers afghan: I'm finely making some good progress, so I can't let the momentum stop!
7. Shop sample of My So Called Scarf...out of malabrigo...it's scrumptious!
8. Baby Bolero from One Skein: That baby is going to be here soon!!! I swapped out my yucky tan color that I bought first for this yummy orange one! Look at how it matches the clothes my sister bought! Soooo, cute!
9. Noro Shrug: This one is obvious. I knit with too many people who have already finished there versions ahead of me...it just needs to be done!

I told you I have a problem.

Stacey - Pack your yarn freely...as much as will fit and you feel like you will truly USE. This trip is going to be FABULOUS!!

What fun! I must warn you it is FREAKING hot here, we are already hitting a 100 in the valley (realistically about 105), so the thought of knitting with wool is only for >>those serious knitters! Me--> it'as all about cotton until September.

so are you going for a month or what?? :) that is a lot of projects! and it is so funny to see the color trend in that pile!!

YOu sound like me I seem to pack too much yarn and not enough clothes. But it always seems to work out.

That is so funny! Enjoy the trip and I hope you get a lot of knitting time. You're really not going to be gone that long, you know? I would skip #8, #4 and #5. Finish up #1 b/c you're so close. Work on #3, b/c that is the perfect time to work on it, work on #7 too b/c it's necessary and work on #9 if you just want too, but it's getting too warm to wear it soon and work on the #6 while you're there! See, ever practical I am! ;-)

I always do that! And when I don't, I end up like I was at Sheep & Wool having to buy needles for the yarn I bought so I could knit something else!

Wow! That sure looks like a lot. If you won't have a problem deciding which one to pick up and knit, I'd say take them all. I would just take what I absolutely have to, OR, love to work on. Less decision to make later. Hmmm... does that still include everything? :-)

Don't feel too bad--at least you're only packing for yourself--I have been known to short change my own children's clothing so I could fit one more project in the suitcase(I mean they can alternate between 2 outfits for a week, right?:)) Have a great time!

In my limited experience with yarn, malabrigo has become my favorite so far. It's...lovely.

You're going to Phoenix right? where it's 100 degrees already? Take 3 sundresses, a large hat and sandals. Panties are optional...because it's soooooooohot !....then you have room for al the wool you want!! and you can rinse out a sundress and it is dry in 20 minutes!!

Hell, bring it all. The colors are so pretty! Who cares if you get any knitting done?!

I read your blog all the time and had to comment on this. LOL I am forever over packing. Especially when it comes to yarn! Even when I go to work and I know I can't knit I still take it with me. When I deployed I took so much yarn and still had my husband send me more just in case I ran out!!! :)

I went out of town on Thursday for a meeting and packed my knitting and magazines, one outfit, make up, flat iron and forgot pajamas!! My solution was going to AC Moore to buy a big tshirt to sleep in and I accidently bought MORE YARN...
I can't decide for you but have fun!!

Really lovely colors. I cannot wait to see what you create on vac. ENJOY

I hear your pain Stacey! I say bring all of it, that's what the second luggage piece is for in the first place. The one thing you leave behind will be the only thing you'll need when you are gone. Murphy's Knitting Law 842... :-) Obviously made up by moi due to justifying my own dilema in choosing what to bring or not bring on my two month sebatical from my home and life. DH is retiring from the navy and we will be in transit, on the road, and family vacationing for two months... and my dilema is mounting... I say, bring what you want, and if you don't use it, then, you are the only one who has to shlept it home. Have a great trip... Take Care, Denice

Um, wow, that's a LOT of projects! Are you going to just be knitting the entire time?! :)
