We've spent the last two afternoons at the pool, and can I just say that knitting and swimming don't really mix. My Mom almost had an accident that involved the pool and Koigu. It could have been tragic, but I yelled and got her attention just in time. Crisis averted. We did get up and around yesterday morning to run a few errands and hit the yarn shop down in Mesa called The Fiber Factory. Believe it or not... but I left the shop empty handed. What can I say, they had no Malabrigo yarn.
While we were in Mesa, I had to take Genia to the funky little coffee shop, Coffee Talk. I had been there with Amy when I was here in January and it's such a cool place. We all sat around drinking iced coffees and knitting on our Koigu-Clapotis'. Yes, you heard me, we are all knitting a Clapotis out of Koigu. This is Genia's first, my second, and my mom's THIRD! She is well and truly addicted to this pattern. She has one using Interlacements Texas (like mine), one out of SWTC Bamboo, and now one out of Koigu! Here's a shot of all three. I'd like to point out to everyone that mine is the biggest...not that it's a competition or anything!

So, about yesterday's post...of course I haven't given up the Koigu. There will be no mass distribution of my Koigu stash. I know that some of you were secretly hoping to get their hands on it, but I'm going to have to disappoint you. Sorry. I'm clearly just infatuated with this new yarn. I've had 2 skeins of it in my stash for months...but I had no idea that is was so fun to knit with. Here's a better shot of the colors I bought the other day, aren't they so springy/tulipy. I just love them all together!

looks like you are having a wonderful time! a clapotis out of koigu is a great idea. you'll have to let us know how many skeins it takes altogether.
as for the malabrigo, is it the same as the handpaintedyarn.com? i thought i had heard that. i have some haindpainted and it is really soft too.
Posted by: amy at May 17, 2006 09:08 AMI am making an afgan for my daughter with the Malabrigo. I have the 3 righthandmost colors in your picture, in the afgan I am making. It is so gorgeous and cuddly. I am using the sampler pattern called Four Seasons by Design Source. It calls for Manos, and the Malabrigo makes a somewhat smaller afgan, but it is too die for! Have fun with it.
Posted by: meredith at May 17, 2006 09:40 AMI made a hat from naive knitting out of the Malabrigo and loved it so much I went back and got a skein in dark blue for myself. I'm saving it for winter knitting...
I'm also working on a clapotis, and hadn't thought about making it out of koigu - are you using the KPPPM? I LOVE the pattern and (like your mom) see more in my future!
PS. I'm going to try to get your yarn for your afghan in the mail this weekend. :)
Posted by: wenders at May 17, 2006 09:48 AMThey are like spring tulips! I can't wait to see what the bag looks like, are you felting it?
Posted by: cheryl at May 17, 2006 09:49 AMIs that one of the Debbie Macomber knitting books I see? Those are a fun read! Enjoy the pool!
Posted by: rohanknitter at May 17, 2006 09:52 AMSend some of that HOT this way please!!! I think it's been raining for over a week and the thought of sitting by a pool right now sounds simply heavenly!! (Sitting by a pool while knitting on a koigu clapotis, well now that would be BEYOND heavenly!! :))
Posted by: allison at May 17, 2006 10:25 AMOh my goodness, the colors of Malabrigo look heavenly! That stuff is very yummy. I'm curious to see how your Clapotis work out of Koigu? How many skeins do you think you will use and what size needles are you knitting with?
Posted by: Wanda at May 17, 2006 10:48 AMI love the colors that you got - super yummy. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. Although, I'm sure you won't be glad to be back at the office. Love ya sis.
Posted by: Whit at May 17, 2006 11:01 AMI wasn't too excited by The Fiber Factory either (I visited there while I was in Tempe for business). But I did come home with a few sock yarns.
Posted by: Natalie at May 17, 2006 11:06 AMewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!! I love that orange!!!
Posted by: Nachaele at May 17, 2006 11:24 AMIn answer to Amy and Wanda's curiousity about the Koigu Clapotis:
•You need 4 skeins of Koigu
•I'm knitting it on an Addi Natura US 7 (but remember that I'm a tight knitter, so if you are loose you'll need to go down in needle size!)
Okay next time you come down...let's meet up...I live in Gilbert!
Have you been to Skip One Purl Too? It's in East Mesa and is brand new. Our SNB group meets there. She carries all the Cascade brands (everything!) and also her handpainted yarn is HEAVEN. LOVE IT!
I can't stand TFF. They need to sub some of that Plymouth Encore with some nicer, more up-to-date yarn!
Sorry I missed you this trip. Hope you had fun!
Posted by: Kelli at May 17, 2006 12:50 PMyummy yummy! I love those colours!
Posted by: Kelly at May 18, 2006 05:52 AMIs it wrong that I salivated when I saw the Malabrigo?
Posted by: Steph VW at May 18, 2006 08:04 AMI'm not big on heat, but I wish it'd get warm enough for swimming. I can't wait for a little reading by the pool action. And SAKES my pale legs could use the sun.
Posted by: Vicki at May 18, 2006 08:28 AMOh, the colors on that last picture - divine!
Posted by: Chris at May 18, 2006 10:30 AMAwwww, Fiber Factory and Coffee Talk! I miss that lovely ritual. There is nothing even close here in Costa Rica. I am hoping to do the Fiber Factory and Coffee Talk round when we go back in October.
