Stacey of Green Gables

CE_GrnBowl.jpg

I've figured out why I'm obsessing over knitting a Green Gables top. It's all in the name. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. When I was younger I was obsessed with Anne of Green Gables. If I'm honest with myself, I'm still a little obsessed, but that's not the point. I've read all the books, seen all the movies, and some day I'm going to visit Prince Edward Island where the stories take place. So...maybe in the back of my mind I've been thinking I'll make the Green Gables top, wear it, and then I'll meet my Gilbert Blythe. Some of you out there know what I'm talking about, admit it! Okay, maybe that's a stretch, but I now have to knit it! This is where you come in. Take this poll and help me figure out what color I should make!

In afghan news...I finished another square on my Blogging Afghan! Tada! The yarn was sent to me all the way from Iceland!
PurplePlacement.jpg

Who sent it: Carola, a.k.a...sheep and no city

Yarn: Lopi Lite in a heathered lavender

Reason behind it: I first heard of Carola's blog when she left me this comment, "P.S.: Just stumbled across your blog's name for the first time - fun. We've got something in common..." Then Wanda was talking about her socks that she knits up one night at a knit group. (seriously, go take a look. She cranks them out!) She even sent Wanda some sock yarn, that's just the kind of person she is! Carola is just an all-around A-number 1 knit-blogger! Thanks Carola!

I vote for bubblegum or sugarplum, I think the light pink won't show the lace so well. well on me you might not know the difference in my skin and the yarn.

Why oh why did you have to show that pattern? I too just loved all the L.M. Montgomery books, particularly Emily of New Moon, and I love the pattern too! Something more to go on the list of must haves. Are you using that cotton suggested or something else? Can't wait to see it knitted up...

I vote Bubble Gum. But then again I would. ;)

I love those books and the movies. Damnit. Now I wanna get them all out to read and watch again. I blame you! :P

I can hear Anne saying "Gilbert Blythe!" I loved the stories and movies too. Maybe I'll have to make a Green Gables too....I have plenty of Cotton Ease.

I love your blogging afghan! I didn't see another post about it... but I suck at finding stuff. Do you have a pattern or template you are working from, or just making it up as you go along? I'm going to be making a "going-off-to-college" blanket for my sister, and am looking for inspiration. Do share! -Carla

Oooh - I loved them too - and I was _so_ relieved that I'm Anne-with-an-e too - imagine being Ann and reading the books - it could scar one for life!

Hmm...It's tricky.

My first choice is orangeade -- because it reminds me of Anne's red, red hair.

Then pink, because she always wanted a pink dress with puffed sleeves and that's what Matthew got her for Christmas. The light pink makes me think of the dress in the movie, but I like the stronger pink colour better.

But then there's blue. Always a favourite -- seems to me her eyes were a grey blue...

I say orangeade. It would look great on you!

I would say Sugarplum is my first vote, second vote is for Strawberry Cream. I think the bright, bright colors don't go for this top, but you know that's just me. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great!

Gilbert Blythe - yum!

What pleasant memories you evolked with Anne of Green Gables. I have a doll of her on my mantle. I voted for bubblegum since I am sure you will have alot to go with it!

either the bubble gum pink or the sugarplum. not strawberry cream, and NO NO NO to the orange. It would blind me if you wore it to a knit night! (in all seriousness,... dude. it's too bright. no one would see the lace paneling)

I know EXACTLY what you mean about the Green Gables and "Anne of Green Gables" because everytime I have read or seen the pattern that is what I think of. I first found some of the lovely books by L.M. Montgomery at my Grandmother's, they had belonged to my youngest aunt. My favorite was "Rilla of Ingleside". Somewhere I still have that orange hardback book. I need to go look for them...
Your afghan is lovely.

If you are ever in the neighbourhood I'll take you over to the island to see the play! Its fabbbbulous! I could watch it 500 times over and still love it!

I voted for bubblegum, assuming that was the dark pink. It seems like that would show off the lace panel well.

Oh my gosh, I'm STILL obsessed with Anne Of Green Gables! Did you know that Donnie from Time2Knit podcast (http://www.time2knitpodcastblog.blogspot.com/) is currently reading through Anne Of The Island? She's awesome, and I feel like I'm 15 again when I'm listening!

The afgan looks like it's coming along beautifully. I love the way you're putting the colors together!

I was a big fan too! It is just natural that you should make the tee :) I voted for the light pink, but really, the tee would look great in any of the colors!

Now I want to reread all those Anne books. I think I'll rent a boat in Forest Park and drift and read "The Lady of Chalotte."

yes, i will admit it (admit is so much to put it on my 100 things about me.), i love Anne too. She is a childhood friend. i've been discovering more knitters who loved the books or movie as i grow up. hmmm?

I voted for bubblegum too! I think it will be good on you! And you know..thanks for doing this in cottonease..I mean..Yay, I have a couple of colors I could use! Look forward to seeing it ;)

I love the sweater- what kind of yarn are you using? Also, what is your blogging afgan?

Posted by: Kristina at June 9, 2006 05:44 PM

Green Gables is one of the good patterns these days. Can't wait to see yours! Candy trucks are so interesting! And the Liam Blanket? Awesome choice of colors. ;)
