Why is it that when I am knitting a ton, I don't want to blog. Then when I have nothing to blog about, I post everyday?! It makes no sense. Life has been crazy for the last few weeks. My brother came for a visit, I was house/dog-sitting all last week, Liam was born, and my Dad's health has continued to be a source of anxiety to me and my family. He has continued going to the oncologist, but there is no real news about what is going on with him. So, what have I been up to through all of this? I just keep knitting, of course!

I started this little top, called Sugar and Spice, for Alice after I saw my friend Cassidy knitting one for her niece. If you follow the link, you'll see that I added a ruffle at the bottom of the top instead of having a hem. (great idea Cassidy!!) It is knitting up super fast out of CottonEase. I just started it a few days ago and I'm almost done with the back piece. I stopped by yesterday to see if it would fit her and it does! She was so cute and just had to have her hair like Aunt Stacey's, and of course I had more hair bands with me! She was very concerned with matching and that she had the blue one and that I had the pink one. What a crack up.

Over the weekend, my family went to the mountains (where it did nothing but rain, rain, rain!) for my Dad's birthday. It was so relaxing and just what we all needed. Lots of games were played and of course...knitting! I knit my Dad some clogs for his birthday because he's been itching for some new ones for a while now. Of course, I didn't start them until Wednesday, and even then I made the wrong size, so I was knitting like a crazy woman on them up until giving them to him. My family has come to realize that it just means I love them more when I give them a gift that is still on the needles. At least that's what I'm trying to get them to understand! Do you think that they'll buy it?!
Here's a picture of the manly colored clogs I made (I'll try to remember to get a picture of the finished felted ones). They are kind of boring, just plain blue and green...but I'm not sure yet how to spruce up clogs and still have them be "manly". If you know of a way, let me know.

And just because I can't help myself...here's another picture of Liam. What a cutie!

Aww..I love his star socks. Are those monkey's on his outfit. He is too cute. And so is big sister Alice. You are a great Aunt with all the knitting you do for them. I think giving a family member a gift on the needles is the greatest way to say "I love you". I just show them the yarn I bought and the pattern with the "intention" of knitting them a gift. At least you get going on yours. Glad you are back!

You should give Alice that blue band... makes her eyes really pop!
Posted by: cyn at July 11, 2006 06:06 PMWhat a cute top you're making for Alice. I love the matching headband photo. Liam is super-cute, can't get enough of his pics. Reminds me of my nephew when he was that age. I think your dad will appreciate the "manly" clogs. Sorry I have no clue what to do to spruce them up.
Posted by: Wanda at July 11, 2006 07:30 PMGreat kiddie pics-so adorable. I love the Sugar and Spice, and was contemplating making it for my two year old, but I LOVE the ruffle idea. Can you let me know how you did it? Also, I hope everything is going well for your father.

Sugar n Spice is sooooo cute! She's going to be one styling girly in that :)
I love the color combination you chose for Sugar 'n Spice. As soon as I saw the pic I knew it was a gift and not for you! It wasn't pink! Liam is such a little cutie!

Posted by: kelli at July 12, 2006 10:59 AMWhat about a monogram on the clogs? It could be needle felted on after the clogs are felted....
Posted by: Cathi at July 12, 2006 12:50 PMLiam is so sweet! I also knit a bunch when under pressure. It helps relieve my mind. Hope your dad does well, I'll keep him in mind.

Keep knitting, it is sanity sometimes.
