Yesterday was our second log cabin class...and I was so impressed with the ladies in my class! A few of them were almost finished with their Moderne Baby Blankets! I snapped a picture of some of the afghans that they are working on. Nachaele's is the brightly colored one on the far right. I just love her choice of colors, it's so bright and cheerful. Between my sister's birthday on Friday night, working at the shop and Tiffany's birthday on Saturday night, and teaching the class on Sunday I really didn't knit that much this weekend. What I found myself doing, was reading! I read almost 4 books this past weekend, each one being about 400 or so pages long. I forget how much I really enjoy the act of reading. I get so caught up the stories. My Grandma gave me a series of 5 books that are about one family...and they are so good! I couldn't put them down at night! I really need to figure out a way to be able to read a book and knit at the same time, my life would be so much easier that way!
This weekend I'm headed to Indianapolis for a wedding...does anyone know of a good yarn shop? I'm going to be with my friend RayLynn (who is a wonderful knitter!) and my mom, so of course we have to find a yarn shop so that we can bring home a "souvenir" from the trip! Let me know if you are in the Indianapolis area and have some ideas...or even if you want to meet up with us. If we get to go, it would Saturday morning. I haven't been on a trip in while, so I'm excited to go!
Posted by Stacey at October 2, 2006 03:30 PMOh, Indy knitter here! I'd recommend Stitches n Scones (http://www.stitchesnscones.com/) on the northeast side. Downtown, try Mass Avenue Knit Shop (http://www.massaveknitshoponline.com/). Enjoy your trip to Indy!
Posted by: Christina at October 2, 2006 04:59 PMI agree with Stiches n Scones. I visit Indy once or twice a year and always love stopping at that store.
Try http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/mmHomeBrands.php for some other stores that may be near where you are staying.
Posted by: jae at October 2, 2006 05:13 PMI agree with Mass. Ave. Knit Shop - it's my favorite Indy shop (though not on Mass. Ave!). It can be a bit tricky to find, but it's worth the effort! They have a great selection and are always very helpful! Enjoy Indy - it's a great town!
Posted by: Jenn at October 2, 2006 05:19 PMHave fun with RayLynn! (are u meeting her there?) and of course u love nachaele's blanket...it's BRIGHT.
Posted by: cyn at October 2, 2006 05:35 PMThey look great, I love this pattern.
Posted by: Sharon at October 2, 2006 05:36 PMNachaele's blanket looks great. Everyone is making great progress. I'm sure you're so thrilled teach! ;-)
Posted by: Wanda at October 2, 2006 05:52 PMStitches and Scones in Westfield is the best place to go. There is another knit store in Broad Ripple called The Golden Thimble. The ladies who run it are a bit on the grumpy side, but they are always helpful. There is a new knitting store by the Clearwater movie theater on 86/82nd street. It is called the Knit Stop. They have absolutely gorgeous yarns, and a fairly innovative staff, but the prices are pretty high. Enjoy your stay in Indy. It's a great little town.
I have been reading your blog for a while now. I really enjoy your color sense. I am very impressed with the amount of knitting you get done. I'm not slow, but I just don't have much time to knit. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for the photos of the log cabin blankets. I have such difficulty selecting colors. What yarns are people using for the baby blankets?
Posted by: Monica at October 2, 2006 06:59 PMyou should check out Chris's blog. stumbling over chaos, she taught herself to knit and read at the same time.
Love Nachael's blanket it just pops!
Ahhh, try listening to an audiobook and knitting at the same time :) I enjoy it for simple knits.
Posted by: Kristin at October 2, 2006 09:29 PMI absolutely second the motion of listening to audio books while knitting. Your local library probably has a website where you can request any book you want. I've been listening to many books while working on my Mystery Stole (and I've not made any mistakes... so far).
Posted by: Cathy Rathbun at October 3, 2006 08:03 AMMass Ave. had a fantastic booth at Stitches Midwest, so their store must be really good.
Posted by: Jenn at October 3, 2006 09:06 AMIf you lay a hardback book in your lap, you CAN read a book and knit at the same tme. I do it all the time. :D
Posted by: denise at October 3, 2006 10:25 AMDang girl, you read fast!!! I know what you mean about getting caught up in a story, though.
Posted by: sarah b. at October 3, 2006 02:11 PMStacey-have fun this weekend! Nice blankies! Are you reading the series by Karen Kingsbury perchance?
