Happy Valentine's Day!

Ariann_Jesse.jpg

It's Valentine's Day, also known as the half-way point of the month...and the last few days have hardly seen any knitting. I've actually been a little under the weather myself the last few days. Thank goodness for a surplus of sick days I've earned at work. I ended up staying home yesterday and resting in the morning and then running errands and taking my Dad to his radiation appointment in the afternoon. His appointment is so quick that I only made it across one row of Ariann before he came out. That will maybe explain how long these rows feel...or you'll just think that I'm a super slow knitter!

I wanted to show you one of my favorite knitting spots. It's a big chair in the corner of my bedroom. I love my big comfy chair...and if I stretch out and use the ottoman too, then there is room for both Jesse and me. Jesse will even sometimes lay on the afghan behind my head while I'm knitting...so funny, like I have my own audience watching me while I knit.

I'm now getting into a rhythm with Ariann. As I knit across the row...it just flows. I don't have to think about anything. I'm now on the hunt for the perfect buttons, any suggestions? I'm thinking about using some big black vintage ones that I have in my button stash. But I'm totally open to suggestions. I do have to confess something though. Last week, I was knitting along, all proud of myself, when I realized (thank you Tiffany!) that I had put a buttonhole on each side of my cardigan. Sheesh. If that's not a boneheaded mistake...and the worst part was that it wasn't like, the last row that I had done. It was several, several, rows back. I made the executive decision...because I am the boss of my own knitting...to just sew the wrong buttonhole closed, and be done. The button is going to cover it up anyway, right?! I'm thinking that BIG buttons might look nice on my Ariann, don't you?

Stacey, the buttonhole on both sides is actually and old Elizabeth Zimmerman trick. Then she would sew the button into the hole and know for sure it was in the right place. You will see this on Cabin Fever patterns too. You are in very good knitting company - not a mistake, a design feature!

Oooh, your progress on Ariann is looking beautiful. I don't know about black buttons, but they may work great. We'd love to see a picture of said buttons. Glad you are feeling better.

I think big black buttons would be just perfect! :P

Love your comfy knitting spot and the happy color of your Ariann!

Oh thank goodness! If you had ripped back I would have said, "No girl! Just sew it up!" Loving the progress on Ariann and keeping your family in my thoughts!

That's going to be a beautiful sweater! Your knitting chair looks so cozy, esp. with the cute kitty snuggled up in there.

I have a super comfy shabby chic blue reading chair in my bedroom; it's perfect for reading, but the arms are just too darn high for knitting. Sigh... I guess you can't knit everywhere.

Happy Valentine's Day, get well soon, and best of luck to your father.

I think Ariann is really growing fast! Yes you are the boss of your own knitting, I like the first comment about Elizabeth Zimmerman....Your comfy chair is really pretty, btw! I Hope all is going along well for your Dad with his treatments.

Wow. You are getting so far on that sweater. And it's soooo pretty. I love the ottoman in your pic above. It looks so fun. Makes me think of Lil' Miss Muffet's Tuffet. Heehee.
I hope you get feeling better soon.

Such a pretty color! I would have to see the button. I sometimes think black buttons can overpower a pink sweater, just my opinion though. it depends on the type of button, of course.

love your knitting buddy! i've got three (a dog and two cats) that will hang with me while i work. the cats are indifferent to it, the dog trys to do the ol' grab and dash of the ball of yarn when i'm not looking. i swear she's part cat!!!

Ariann is looking good--slowly but surely coming along :)

I love your chair and ottoman. It looks like a great place to curl up and knit or read.

Hope you are feeling better :)

I was at the supermarket the other day and saw a man that looked like your dad. Just wanted you to know that there are warm thoughts going out towards him from Boston.

...and you definitely made the right decision on the buttonhole!

Beautiful job, Stacey! Just keep knitting, knitting, knitting... And big black buttons sound fab!

The buttonhole on both sides is no problem. Just stitch it shut when you sew on the button. As a matter of fact, that's what I suggest to knitters who are making baby gifts when they don't know the sex of the baby. Then, when he/she is born, just sew the buttons on the appropriate side, closing the extra buttonhole.

You're making good progress. Your sweater looks very nice. And your big comfy chair is very inviting!

You know, I have been trying to remember where I saw this picture (of the chair) which is inspiring me to buy a similar one for my knitting room. I just told DH the other day that I want a nice chair with an ottoman the whole time seeing this photo in my head. Thanks for the wonderful idea.
