It's hip to be square!

4ModSquares.jpg

I spent the weekend knitting on my Mod-on-Mod afghan. Made some good progress...I finished three squares.Michelle and Jeni both got in on the action too. They each knit a square for me! Thanks ladies! I am loving this afghan, and I can't say enough good things about this cotton. It's Araucania Patagonia and Nature Cotton. The pattern is Mod-on-Mod from the book Yarn Play.

As far as other knits go, here's what I am currently working on:

Ariann: I haven't been working on this project in a few weeks, but I am still loving how it looks. I needed some time away from it, but I'm ready to pick it back up and work on it!

Jawbreaker Cardigan: I have the back, and the two fronts done. All I need to do now is cast on for the sleeves.

Jawbreaker #2: Have I told you all about this one? Umm, all I've done is cast on for the back and knit about 6 inches. I bought some Sheep Shop Yarn in the prettiest colorway...that totally reminds me of my favorite color of Manos called Wildflowers. I haven't had a chance to take a picture of it yet, but I'll get to that eventually. This isn't a project that I'm in a rush to finish since it's 100% wool and we're headed into summer soon.

Entrelac Market Squares bag: I got the bag where it needed to be for my class...and I haven't worked on it since. This is not a high priority for me either.

Some projects that I'm thinking about for the future: a summer top for my niece Alice, since she's grown out of the one that I knit her last year. Note to self...knit larger sizes for a growing kid, duh! I'm thinking of making the Monica top for her out of some Cotton Ease that I have stashed away. Also on the kid knitting front I need to knit them some little cotton hats, a raspberry for Alice and a Pumpkin for Liam. This could lead to more fruit hat knitting...as I feel the need to knit for my cousin's kids who are the same age as my niece and nephew. We'll see...this could be a fleeting thought.

I see a recurring theme in my knitting these days....cotton. We've got the Nature Cotton, the cotton ease for the top for my niece, the cotton fleece for the fruit hats, the Patagonia for the Mod on Mod. I've gone cotton crazy it looks like! So has someone else I know! You have to go read about Cara's latest obsession...it's amazing and inspiring. Go. Read. Now!

**there are two huge milestones coming up for me here at Sheep in the City. My 5000th comment, and my 500th post. If you happen to be the one that hits it as my 5000th comment, I'll send some fun yarn your way. I can't tell you how close I am...so just comment!**

I am loving your afghan progress! Eventually, I really want to knit that afghan, so I'm excited to see yours come together! Although, right now after all the mitered squares I'm knitting, I may be done with squares for a little while. :-)

those squares are so cool looking! :)

Love your blanket squares, so pretty in pink and oranges! Too bad I only have 2 skeins of that yarn!

Love the colors in those squares! How fun!

I adore the pink-orange colorway. I'm contemplating an afghan of some sort and this color scheme may be the final inspiration straw on the camels back. I can't wait to see it when it is complete in all its mod-y goodness.

Since I had absolute heck with a cotton top and matching shawl I knit last year, I'm sticking with my favorite -- wool. Though, I must admit I might try that cotton/polyester one of these months!

I was just eyeing the mod-on-mod afghan in Yarnplay this weekend and trying to remember if you had posted anything lately about yours! Looks like it's coming along nicely - I really love those color combos. Might have to add this one onto my to-do list :)

Lots of nice knitting content today~thanks for the inspiration! Maybe today I will work on my M.O.M., which is in the same colorway. Did you see the new Cotton Ease? The colors I saw were very subtle, and the yarn was nice feeling. Happy knitting! Blessings abound...

Araucania Patagonia and Nature Cotton were the yarns I used on my first project after learning to knit...that afghan is so cool!

I just found your blog and I love it!

I am collecting yarn for mod-on-mod. Also, speaking of YarnPlay, I have the front and back of Poppy done. No picture til I replace of miraculously locate my camera.

The colors in your afghan squares are so great! And your mug turned out great too! I recently went to one of those paint-your-own pottery places and it was such a blast! I really think you need to make a whole set.

I've also been thinking about your parents lately, I hope your dad is doing well!

I love the afghan. You chose awesome colors. I haven't knit or crocheted with cotton in a million years it seems. You might just inspire me to start my own. Cheers!

Okay, that little top you made that she outgrew...too stinking cute!!! (almost as cute as Alice is)

I love the Jawbreaker, and I whipped it up this fall, only to not love the way it fit and the way the collar was all wonky;0( So I am anxious to see yours, and maybe get a few tips!!!!! xio

I just discovered your blog recently. I love that afghan. Most of the time I find cotton hard on my hands, what about some of these you have mentioned? Are they easy on the hands? do they have "any" stretch?

Posted by: Patti at March 21, 2007 09:55 AM

I love the colors in your mod squares. Very cool. I hope your dad is on the mend. I know from "lurking" that things have been tough but I hope that things are going better for everyone. ;D

Posted by: Kim at March 21, 2007 09:59 AM

I've really been into cotton and other non-wooly fibers lately too. It's a good thing too since the highs here in Tx have been in the upper 70's.

Wow! The chance to be your 5000th comment has boosted me out of stalker status. Love Ariann and am looking forward seeing it finished!
