Funny that I should mention...

Alice_twirlyBraids.jpg
*It's amazing what you can do with knitting notions while in the car with a three year old for a really long time. You use them to hold your braids! And yes, I got some in my hair too!*

It's a little funny to me that I mentioned yesterday that most of the garments that I've knit have been for my niece or nephew, and what do I do as soon as Sienna was off the needles? I cast on a sweater for Alice. A few times on the drive back across Kansas she'd ask me, "Is that sweater for me?" (referring to the Sienna Cardigan) I'd gently tell her no, that it was in fact for Aunt Stacey. Then like 20 minutes later she'd ask, "Is that for me?". I finally asked her if she'd like me to make her a sweater and she promptly answered, "Yes. With pink. And stripes. But no green." The girl knows what she wants. How can I say no when I'm asked so sweetly and specifically? So, last Saturday, while I was working at the shop, Alice came in for a visit and I had her pick out the yarn. Side-note...my sister told me that in the car, on the way to the shop, Alice told her that she was so excited to visit me at the yarn shop! She is so going to become a knitter! Okay, back to the yarn selection. Little did she know that the night before I had picked out 4 colors that I thought she'd like and set them aside. She then, without seeing what I had picked, picked out 3 of the 4 all by herself. (although, yes I did steer her towards the 2 big buckets of Blue Sky Cotton. I needed to narrow down the options a bit.) I'm using a pattern from the book Miss Bea's Playtime by Louisa Harding. This sweater looks like it will be fun to knit up...I've officially dubbed it the Super-Girly Stripped sweater. The colors are Shell, Lotus, Orchid, and Thistle. Um, yeah, it's super girly.

I will be casting on and knitting more garments for myself in the near future, don't you worry. (and some of you were, which I appreciate) But I do have a few sweaters on the needles that I want to finish up first. Like Ariann for instance. I'm just about to start the first sleeve. I'm going to dig through my WIP tub this weekend and pull out a few oldies-but-goodies and see just what exactly is on the needles around here.

Thanks for all the kind words about my Sienna Cardigan. Thank you, thank you!

That arm of yours doesn't hurt much from the twisting, does it?! Hehehe!!!

Alice is so excited about you knitting her something. She pretty much thinks everything being knit right now is for her... sweaters, afghans.

She was so cute picking things out. I'm sure she'll love it. It's going to be adorable.

She's such a cutie. She's lucky she has an aunt who will knit for her :)

I like knitting kids clothes--rather than stuff for myself. It doesn't take as long.

Too cute! I always like seeing what you knit up for your niece!

How is your nephew's XO sweater coming along?

How adorable is you niece?! Can I have one just like her? It is too cute that she adores wearing all your handknits. You train them up right Obi Wan Knit-obi. The force runs strong in that one.

Wow, what a fun big sweater - the model even kind of looks like her, especially the grinning. It'll be great in super-girly colors. Simple pattern will show them off and keep them quite sophisticated for a wee one, methinks. Hm, sounds like Yoda, maybe it's the Obi Wan reference above!

(So proud of myself for de-lurking two posts in a row.)

Hi! *I* want one of those sweaters in girly colors... what a cute pattern! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

And if you're taking requests... I've been waiting to see how your Jawbreaker turns out. ;)

You have such a good eye for color Stacey! It looks like Alice does too.

Alice is such a cutie. That sweater will be extra cute. Besides there's nothing wrong with getting the seaming practice for sweaters on smaller sweaters first before knitting an adult-sized garment! Those colors will be perfect for her!

That is going to be so cute!! I am considering doing this for my niece, or niece's instead of starsky jr. right now. I could make 2 by Christmas right?

Alice is so cute! What a fun sweater to make for her; the colors will look great :)

What a lucky niece Alice is! You're such a great aunt :)

Oh I have all the Miss Bea books and the patterns in them are wonderful. I have knit so many things for friends children as gifts, and for my own daughter too. I am sure the stripey sweater will look beautiful when it is finished, and your niece is very good at picking colors that match too.
