A knitting dilemma...

I have multiple projects that I am trying to knit in a timely manner, i.e...by Christmas. What sort of plan of attack should I take? I could try knitting on one project until it's done, but knowing how I usually operate, that is probably not going to happen. I've thought about knitting on one project each night, giving that project my undivided attention for the whole evening. Here are the projects that I'm knitting on a deadline:

Secret Dad project: This is a must. I want to get this done for Christmas. Many of you have asked me what colors of Malabrigo I'm using for this project. Here they are:
603-Apple Cinnamon
50-Roanoke
96-Sunset
123-Rhodesian
23-Pagoda
Loro Barranquero
Jaen
56-Olive
51-VAA
52-Paris Nights
150-Azul Profundo

Hugs and Kisses Hoodie: This is the sweater that I'm knitting for Liam. I don't have to get this one done by a certain date, but the boy is growing more and more everyday, so I should.

One Baaad Poncho: I haven't talked about this project here yet, but I'm knitting my sister a poncho to wear this Winter while she's pregnant. She is due in February, so I need to get this one done in the next few months. The pattern is a free one from Hello Yarn and I'm using Brown Sheep Bulky in Victorian Pink.

Super Girly Striped Sweater: Alice's sweater. You all know the pressure I'm under from a particular 3 year old. I've finished one front and the back, so I have 3 pieces left to knit.

Obviously, I have other miscellaneous projects that I'm knitting for myself, but none of them have a deadlines...so they've been set aside for awhile.

Please, oh please, give me some suggestions!

What yarn/color are you using for the Poncho? I love it!!

I like your idea to work on 1 project each night. At least you'll be getting a little bit done on each thing and you won't feel like anything is getting left out :)

A project a night sounds like a good way to distribute the workload and make sure every one gets done on time. You're so good - knitting for your family. I'd like to make my family presents, but I know I'll never get them done on time!

When you figure it out, please let me know! :) I have too many projects going right now.

I like the one project per night idea - that's what I do when I'm juggling projects. It all sounds great!

You might consider working on finishing a smaller project while also working on a larger project. Maybe finishing a sweater for Liam (since he's the smallest) while working on the Secret Dad project or Whit's poncho. Once the smaller project is done, move on to the next larger project, Alice's sweater, which doesn't have too many pieces and still working a larger project, while bringing in the third (larger) project, so you can some of the smaller things out of the way and done well in time of your deadline. and you're still making progress on the larger projects. Then your smaller ones are done, good headway on the larger ones and you can concentrate and whip out the last ones.

Finish Alice's first. It is so easy and fast. Then move on to Dad's. Take it with you everywhere. Knit on it solidly until October 26. Then work on Liam's til it is done. It will be a breeze because it is small, then back to Dad's with renewed vigor. You still have wiggle room with Whitney. Remind yourself that it is because you love this people that you want to share your time making something beautiful for them. Think about them as you do, and it will be a pleasure and not a chore. Count it all joy!

Since you have them all cast on, why don't you keep them all out where you can see them and work on whatever grabs your interest? That way you'll naturally start finishing one or two of them, and you won't start to resent any one particular project. I find that when I restrict myself (which I often do), I end up knitting v e r y slowly, because I'm not really "into" the experience.

I'd go with one a night--it minimizes the "transition and setup" time when switching projects!

Good luck!

All such good suggestions! Thanks ladies. Now I just need to stick to the plan :) No casting on for anything else!

I love your knitting - I always like the pattern AND the yarn choice. :)

I would finish Alice's sweater, than rotate between projects on a set schedule - if you think your dad's project will take longer, knit on that two nights (i just typed knights) in a row, then one on the otheres, and so... proporitionally, so to speak. good luck!!

What I've found that works for me when I have a deadline on a project is to knit on the biggest one(probably your Dads)M-TH and then save the weekends for those projects that have been screaming at you for attention.

I think that a different project each night is a good idea. That way you get variety and everything gets done. If something is bigger though you may want to work on it more often because it will still need more time.

That doesn't sound too bad! My list is getting more and more ambitious! :)

I try to finish projects that are largest or least interesting to me first, and then do the smaller ones closer to Christmas. That way I can take part in more celebrations, instead of feeling chained to my knitting as I maniacally try to finish a whole sweater in one week! But then again, I usually only have two projects going at once.

No casting on new projects - can you stand it? You should totally get the ones done for the kids first and Dad - I love the poncho, but I'm definitely not as important in the "ranking." Don't hear that as a poor me, but I would put mine on the back burner for sure!
