The last week has been another long one folks. My Dad found out some disappointing news...after a year of chemo treatments...every three weeks for a year...his body has stopped responding and his PSA levels are rising. Today, actually as I write this, he is getting a cat scan of his abdomen and chest to see if anything has spread to the soft tissue or organs. We are praying against that being the case. We'll find out within the next week what that scan shows. Needless to say, I haven't felt like blogging, or at least I haven't really known what to write about. I've been knitting a little, off and on, but have no real progress to show for it.
When I have no knitting to show off, I show off pictures of the nieces and nephew because...boy are they cute!
Alice riding for the first time in her new PINK carseat in Aunt Stacey's car. For 10 bucks more, why wouldn't you get the pink, right? Of course, my sister replied that now she is only going to want to ride with me. Oops!
After lunch on Monday, I ran with Alice over to the yarn shop. It's one of her favorite places to go. (mine too!) She, without our prompting, tried on a few hats. We didn't correct her that she should probably only try on one at a time!
Here we have a super cute picture of all three of my nieces and nephew. That would be Alice, holding Liam, who is in turn holding Amelia. These little ones bring so much joy to my family. Just the other night we were all eating dinner together when Alice leaned over to my Dad and said, "We are special friends Poppy, because we both have sensitive ears." This was just after my Dad had told us that we were all talking a little loudly and could we tone it down. We really do have so much fun together. Please be praying for my Dad in the next week...pray, pray, pray. That's all we can do. Thanks everyone!
Posted by Stacey at April 23, 2008 02:30 PMMan, those kids are so cute! And, some knitting content - it was a yarn shop in the background of that pic. Praying hard for DAD!
Posted by: Whitney at April 23, 2008 04:03 PMI'm so sorry to hear the news about your dad - that is hard to take for you all, I'm sure. I sure hope that his scan results will give good news. (the waiting to hear must drive you crazy) Is't it amazing how little ones can brighten things up though? I love your nieces pink car seat!
Posted by: rohanknitter at April 23, 2008 04:30 PMPraying for healing for your Dad and peace for your whole family as you wait for answers...and the kids are adorable!

Posted by: deb at April 23, 2008 05:58 PMOy. As always, keeping your Dad and your family in my thoughts. Hoping scan comes back clean, and that we find an alternative treatment soon! (or a fixable explanation of why the chemo, which was working so well, stopped working. Hmph).
Posted by: cyn at April 23, 2008 06:08 PMI am keeping my thoughts positive for your dad!
Continue to stay strong and how can you not smile seeing those precious little faces!
Your Dad will definitely be in my thoughts.
That is possibly the coolest booster seat ever! What little girl wouldn't want one. Good thing Diva has advanced to the smaller one and I'm going to keep her away from your car.
Tell Alice I love the Alice in Wonderland shirt she is wearing in the hat picture.
Posted by: Kim at April 23, 2008 06:40 PMLots of prayers of peace for your Dad and family during this time. Waiting is so hard, I am praying the news is good and it will come quick. Cute kid pics, can't go wrong with sharing those. And pink car seats...where were those when The Chicken and Giggles needed them. Well Giggles probably wouldn't of ridden in one, but by golly I am sure Chicken would still be squeezing in hers if it was pink...LOL!
Posted by: Heather at April 23, 2008 06:58 PMI will say a prayer for you father. Those are definitely some beautiful kids.
Posted by: claudia at April 23, 2008 07:23 PMPrayers for your Dad, your Mom, the rest of the family and his medical team. After 2 cancer sets of chemo treatments and a lot of surgeries, and his latest 12 weeks with 2 major surgeries this go round..my Dad went home finally Friday...after believing he wouldn't live through the last surgery. Prayer works, is what I'm saying...so consider you all prayed for..as I have been while going through my Dad's needs. Hugs, too! lots of them.

Posted by: Connie at April 24, 2008 11:27 AMStacey,
I don't know you or your family personally, but you'll all be in my thoughts and prayers this week.
Hi Girl,
Just wanted to let you know that I know what you are going through and when you are young and go through something like this there are a lot of people that just don't get it. When a parent is so sick, you feel like you are in a bubble separate from the world. Keep just being present in the moment, trying not to judge, just experience the emotions. What I wish people had told me, is that YOU WILL BE OKAY! Promise all will be okay.
I learned to knit right when my mom got diagnosed, I think it saved me ;-)
Praying for you and for miracles!
Leah
Stacey - I'm praying for lots of health and happiness for your father - and your entire family. * HUGS *

Those are great photos of your nieces and nephew! That's so cute what Alice said to your dad the other day :)
Posted by: Terrie at April 25, 2008 10:15 AMI just wanted to let you know that you, your dad and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I have followed your blog for a while now as I am an avid knitter too and started reading your dads as well since my mom is battling cancer too. I feel so intensely what you are feeling and know the pain and uncertainty, worry and feelings of no control that you are feeling, as well as the wonderful respite and comfort that comes from our faith and prayer. Every time my mom has a test that we are anxiously awaiting the results of I just think of the verses that tell about God taking care of the birds and the flowers and that he will surely take care of us, that worry is pointless and to turn it all over to him. Thank you for sharing your story. I will continue to pray for your dad.
Posted by: Jennifer at April 25, 2008 10:25 AMThinking of you and your family....I wish the best for your dad and all of you. Hope the scan results show good things!
Posted by: Kathode Ray Tube at April 25, 2008 06:05 PMMy dad is a Poppy too. I'll be thinking of you and your family. Hang in there!
Posted by: Courtney at April 25, 2008 07:29 PMWell, I'm a bit late here, as this week ate my lunch so there was no blog time, but I was praying for your dad today and had just swung by to tell you. I love it when that happens, when you pray for someone without really knowing what is going on and it turns out they need it. Amazing how God works! I was just thinking about going to Maryland, and how I had met you at a festival, and that turned to how incredible your folks are, and then I found myself praying for your dad. I will continue to pray for him!
Posted by: sarah b. at April 26, 2008 08:37 PMI'm so sorry to hear about your father (and sorry that this is coming so late - I'm behind on reading blogs!). I'm sending lots of hugs and best wishes to the whole family. He's very lucky to have such a loving family, and a specal friend in Alice! (And I love the carseat, by the way!)
Let me know if there's anything I can do.
Posted by: michaele at April 28, 2008 05:42 PMI'm sorry Stacey. Having been consumed with our situation, I haven't caught up on my blogs until today. Your family is always in my prayers...and has been since I "met" you.
